An Introduction and Facts for a Malaysian Study on Kratom’s Main Alkaloid

Introduction for the Study on Understanding the Physicochemical Properties of Mitragynine, a Principal Alkaloid of Mitragyna Speciosa, for Preclinical Evaluation

A study was done in Malaysia in 2015 concerning the physicochemical properties of the alkaloid known as Mitragynin. This alkaloid is the most dense and abundant in kratom, and it is what gives the natural drug its power. Specifically, it is an indole alkaloid.

Indole is a completely organic, aromatic compound. Chemically, it is sort of structured like a bike with two attached wheels with a different number of spokes. One of the chemical wheels in the alkaloid is a benzene wheel, which contains six members. The benzene wheel is fused to a pyrrole wheel, which is made up of five nitrogen spokes. Indole is widespread in the ecosystem, and a variety of bacteria are capable of producing it, which would explain why it is so prolific in the environment.

There are two interesting facts about the indole alkaloid related to the study and kratom as a subject in the author’s opinion. First off, it is one of the properties derived from tryptophan, which is an amino acid with physiological and cognitive benefits. The second fact might help explain a little why kratom is such a good mood booster, and it is because this alkaloid is a precursor or harbinger of the serotonin neurotransmitter. Serotonin is released naturally by the body, and it has a wide variety of functions, but it is also a tool for the brain. Serotonin is used in a number of psychoactive drugs, but it is also utilized heavily in psychiatry to elevate mood. Kratom has been described by many people as a mood booster.

Aside from the mood boosting effects of mitragynine, it has also been called a legal opioid, but few psychoactive property studies have been done to validate the claim. Kratom users experience the truth though. They document in forums constantly about kratom, which mitragynine is the main alkaloid contained in it, relieves pain and boosts mood. Some kratom users and patients treated with mitragynine have also reported a feeling of relaxation. There have also been reports of paradoxical effects because of a stimulant experience. The feeling of relaxation or stimulation typically depends on the color of the leaf’s vein and the dosage of kratom taken. White veined kratom leaves are known to stimulate, and green and red veined kratom leaves are known to relax.

Healthcare Technologies That Will Transform The Way We Live

digestiblesensorsThe life expectancy in America has increased drastically in the past few decades. The advances that have been made in technology are one of the reasons people are living longer now than ever before. It is exciting to see so many new healthcare products come out. Below are some examples of future healthcare technologies that will change the way we live:

Digital Diagnostics

One of the goals that the healthcare industry has is to make healthcare more accessible to people. Many people are unable to get to the doctor. Digital diagnostics are becoming readily available. There is already software that can detect the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Even though digital diagnostics will not take the place of a doctor, they will allow a person to have more control over their health.

Ultrafast CT Scans

CT scans are often used to diagnose problems of the heart. However, CT scans are not a reliable test for many people because they have fast heartbeats. Ultrafast CT scans will be able to capture an image of the heart in just one beat. This new technology will also allow doctors to get a better picture of the heart.

Should You Start Taking Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)?

commoncoldWhat is Ascorbic Acid?

There is a difference between Ascorbic Acid and Vitamin C. This may surprise many people, but Ascorbic acid is a chemical compound that supports Vitamin C. It is a strong, naturally occurring organic compound packed full of antioxidant properties, which dissolves well in water. It is very beneficial to the system, but because it is water soluble it must be replenished daily.

How does Ascorbic Acid Benefit the Body?

This compound is typically used in preventing and treating low levels of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that reduces oxidative stress on the cells of the body. An adequate amount of Vitamin C and Ascorbic Acid are known to reduce the cancer risk by protecting the good cells and destroying free radicals. A healthy immune system will benefit the entire system and prevent colds, flu and other hazardous germs. Vitamin C, supported with Ascorbic acid, is one of the most essential vitamins that the body requires on a daily basis.

Vitamin C and Ascorbic Acid are also important in maintaining the health of teeth, cartilage, bone, blood vessels and skin, all vital areas of the body.

Foods High in Vitamin C

This essential vitamin is found mainly in fruits and vegetables. The top 10 foods with Vitamin C are bell peppers, vegetables that are dark and leafy such as kale, turnip greens or spinach, broccoli, Kiwi, strawberries, cooked tomatoes, citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit, peas, papaya and Guavas are all at the top of the list.

Both Ascorbic Acid and Vitamin C are commonly available in pill or capsule form to compliment your daily diet, and they are available in doses of 100mg up to 1,000mg. The supplement is not meant to be a substitute for a healthy diet.

Side Effects

There are several side effects from taking too much Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C or from being allergic, but they are very rare. They are evidenced by experiencing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn or abdominal pain, and if these conditions should occur discontinue use and see your doctor.
